7 Scriptures to Pray for Unsaved Family Members

Why would God leave the 99 and go after just one soul? The parable of the lost sheep points us to the heart of the father and shows how much he desires that all men are saved. God is a pursuer of men and heaven always rejoices when one sinner or lost soul finds his way back to God. And prayer is one good way to reach the unsaved. As you come before God boldly in prayer and intercession, that unsaved family member will be saved and find her way back to God.  Let us take a look at 7 Scriptures to pray for unsaved family members.

Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. – Luke 15:7

Jesus was sent by the father on a rescue mission to seek and save the lost. And our unsaved family members are not left out of the picture. In Luke 15, Jesus uses three parables to point us to the premium value God places on human lives. He diligently seeks out the lost to save, rescue and deliver them. And every single person matters in the eyes of God.

The first parable describes God as a good shepherd who goes all out to rescue one lost sheep. And then a woman who loses one coin out of her ten silver coins sweeps through her entire house seeking out that one lost coin until she finds it. Her action leaves us with this one question – how diligent are we in seeking out those who are lost amongst us until they come to Christ?

The parable of the prodigal son happens to be the most popular because of the vivid imagery it paints in our imagination. The prodigal son returns home after squandering his inheritance on a lifestyle of sin. He later comes back to his senses and finds his way back to his father who welcomes him with open arms. His father is overwhelmed with joy and a feast is declared to celebrate the return of his son. That son whom he thought was dead had been found and now had another chance at life. But this time, with a renewed knowledge of his God-identity and a new life in God.

God’s heart yearns for the return of the sinner. Were we not all lost at one point in time? But the Lord came after us in different seasons of life and rescued us from the clutches of sin and kingdom of darkness. And this parable reminds us that no matter how far the sinner has strayed and how lost he is in the world, he can still find his way back to God.

Do you have family members that are lost in a life of sin? Have they turned their back on God? Do not give up, even though lost, as you intercede for them in prayer, they will find their way back to God.

For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. So, they began to celebrate. – Luke 15:24

Prayer remains one of our greatest weapons in winning our loved ones back to God. Refuse to be moved even when it looks like no change is happening and keep your eyes on God in prayer. Remember that God saved Saul who was chief amongst sinners and transformed his life and story completely and can save your loved ones. He can change the hardest of hearts.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. – Galatians 6:9
