Motherhood

What It Means To Be A Mother

Did you know that a mother is not just one who has carried a life inside her or given birth to a child?

The word mother evokes a lot of emotions when spoken. For some, a mother is a nurturer, a believer, a friend, a light giver and one who loves selflessly.

” Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother. ” -Oprah Winfrey

For others, a mother is a friend, a beacon of hope in a broken world, a voice of wisdom and a pathway to greatness.

And that is why we have mothers who have never had children, yet they chose to open up their hearts to love and be a blessing to another child.

These women took in children of their spouses and mothered them.

They took in helpless and orphaned children and gave them a home.

They took the vulnerable and disadvantaged and gave them hope for a better tomorrow.

They used their influence and resources to give these children a headstart in life by investing in their education.

And for those of us who were given the gift of carrying a life inside us and birthing a child, may we always remember that our journey is not different from theirs.

Together, we are all on this pathway of building lives, shaping minds, planting seeds and giving light to the next generation.

” Mother is a verb. It’s something you do. Not just who you are. ” – Dorothy Canfield Fisher

We are teaching the next generation kindness, faith, hope, courage, wisdom, love and purpose through our words, actions and lives.

So whether you birthed a child, or you are a step-mom, or you adopted a child as your own, or perhaps you are still on this journey of waiting to conceive and carry your child.

Here is something that you really need to know.

You are this.

A Nurturer.

A Teacher.

A Helper.

A Caregiver.

A Friend.

A Comforter.

A Light-Giver.

A Dream Believer.

A Pointer to Destiny.

A Beacon of Hope.

A Resounding Voice of Wisdom.

A Memory that Never Fades.

A Love That Lives Forever.
