Before I share these 18 uplifting bible verses for the anxious mom, I will like to say this. Sometimes, mothers will go through seasons of excessive and persistent worry and will often take on the role of professional worrier.
She gets overwhelmed with feelings of fear and racing thoughts that keep her awake at night. She worries for her young children, marriage and even what the future holds for her. It is usually normal to feel anxious when taking a new path like starting a new job or becoming a first-time mom. But, when feelings of anxiety begin to interfere with your everyday life, it should become a source of concern.
What Does the Bible Say About Anxiety?
Anxiety can be triggered by different things or events in our lives. Some of the general causes of anxiety include feelings of fear, guilt, childhood trauma, abuse, distress and the fear of death. And these feelings and emotions if not properly checked can lead you into a very dark place mentally and emotionally as a mom.
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” Proverbs 12:25
In the bible, you will find men and women who struggled with anxiety. They were not immune to the pressures of everyday life as children of God. Read about these 6 biblical figures who struggled with anxiety in the bible. Some of these men and women struggled so much with feelings of anxiety and depression to the point of feeling suicidal. Elijah was one of those people who struggled with anxiety.
“ While he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” 1 Kings 19:4
Elijah moved from having big wins for the kingdom to feeling depressed. The same prophet who had just taken down 850 prophets of Baal in a showdown suddenly became fearful and started feeling suicidal, after receiving a threat from Jezebel. This great prophet went on to isolate himself from the world and began praying to God to die.
It is true that there will always be those times when you feel like you have had enough, yet God wants you to still look to him in those moments. He wants you to put your focus on him alone when those dark and lonely seasons come.
How Does God Want Us to Deal With Anxiety?
I remember having feelings of anxiety about my mom as a young child and during my teenage years. I struggled with thoughts of losing my mom at a young age and became afraid each time she went out. But, as I grew older, I began to overcome those horrible thoughts and feelings through prayer and with the word of God. I learnt to trust God with my fears and feelings of anxiety.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. “ Philippians 4:6-7
Apostle Paul by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in scriptures lets us into three very important truths that can help us deal with anxiety.
1. Do not be anxious about anything.
Worry has a way of pulling our minds in different directions and will sometimes leads you into a very dark place. However, God wants you to learn to take charge of your mind, feelings and emotions with the help of the Holy Spirit. The word of God is saying to you today – do not be anxious about anything or anyone. Do not be anxious about your today, your future, your children or your loved ones. Put your worries before God today.
2. Let your requests be made known to God.
God wants you to run to him both in the good and bad times. He wants you to tell him what you are feeling and the thoughts running through your mind. He also wants you to remember those things he has done in your life and be encouraged by his faithfulness. Did you know that God wants you to let him in on every detail of your life? So, whenever those feelings of anxiety come, remember to do this. Lay your requests before God in prayer, petition your case before him and let your heart overflow with thanksgiving to him.
3. Let God’s peace that surpasses all understanding guard your heart and mind.
There is a peace that only God can give in the midst of chaos and turbulence. When you have the peace of God in your life, what you are going through pales in comparison to the peace God gives. He will fill your heart with his peace so much that you are able to stand firm in difficult seasons of life. Take a moment right now and ask God to fill your mind and heart with his peace.

Prayers for The Mom Struggling With Anxiety and Depression
Dear Lord,
I pray for every mother walking through a dark season right now. I pray for that mother who is struggling with anxiety and battling with depression in her life. I ask that you wrap your loving arms around her. Let her feel your tangible presence in her life in a way she has never known. I ask lord that you draw her from the pit of darkness and loneliness that seeks to swallow her up. Lord, help her to lay her burdens before you and show her that you truly care for her. Strengthen and help her to turn her focus on you, the maker of heaven and earth.
Heavenly father, I ask that you draw her away from the darkness that seems to cloud her mind and soul. Lift her up from the ashes of despair and hopelessness and help her to see that your loving kindness abides with her forever. I pray that you will shield her mind from every attack of the wicked one and rid it of every negative thought. Bring calm to her racing thoughts and let her sleep be sound each time she lays down to rest.
May she see that your faithful love for her never ends and that your mercies are renewed afresh in her life every single day. Lord, help her to run to you and look at you whenever she is feeling anxious. May she find stillness in the midst of chaos knowing that you will fight all her battles for her.
I pray that you will fill her mind and life with your peace and that she will experience God’s peace which exceeds anything we can ever understand. Fill her with unspeakable joy that is full of glory. Lead her forth in your peace and may her heart overflow with hope all the days of her life. Amen!
