What Does the Bible Say About Wisdom?
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Proverbs 9:10 ESV
To revere God is the foundation of wisdom. When we know, honor and worship God, this is the beginning of having God’s wisdom in our lives. The bible also lets us know that Christ is the wisdom of God made manifest on the earth.
“And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. 1 Cor 1:30 ESV
God is more than willing to give us wisdom when we ask him. It is his desire that we walk and grow in wisdom even as we shine forth his light and love on the earth today. You can ask God for wisdom today.
You can ask God for wisdom today.“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;” Proverbs 2:6 ESV
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 ESV
Did you know that wisdom can lead you away from evil and from making foolish decisions? The wisdom of God in the heart of a believer can guide him through life and always give him peace. Having the wisdom of God means trusting God and letting him lead you through life.
8 Characteristics of Godly Wisdom
Godly wisdom comes from God. And this is because true wisdom can only be found in God and has its foundation in God. There is a wisdom found in the world and there is also the wisdom that comes from man.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness” I Corinthians 3:19
Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? I Corinthians 1:20
Whenever a man chooses to follow his own ways and refuses to yield to God’s leadership, he is on the path of foolishness. There is a wisdom that comes to bear in the world, and many have been led into destructive and painful paths because they heeded to this wisdom.
God calls the wisdom the world gives foolishness. The wisdom of God is beyond human reasoning and you cannot walk in God’s wisdom and be disadvantaged in life. So, what does God’s wisdom look like. The book of James shows us the characteristics of godly wisdom. And there are 8 characteristics of wisdom listed in this verse of scripture.
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17 NIV
“But the wisdom from above is first pure [morally and spiritually undefiled], then peace-loving [courteous, considerate], gentle, reasonable [and willing to listen], full of compassion and good fruits. It is unwavering, without [self-righteous] hypocrisy [and self-serving guile]. James 3:17 AMP
What Are The 8 Characteristics of Godly Wisdom?
- Peace- loving – The wisdom that comes from God does not foster division and strife. Rather it strives to live and be at peace with all men.
- Considerate – God’s wisdom shows concern and thoughtfulness towards others. It is always careful not to harm others through words or actions.
- Submissive/Humble – A man who has the wisdom of God at work in his life never brags, boasts, or looks down on others. He is respectful and never displays a prideful attitude.
- Pure – God’s wisdom is morally and spiritually undefiled. It is free from impurities and untainted.
- Good Fruits – A life that reflects the wisdom of God will have good fruits to show. Fruits of love, compassion, kindness, uprightness, and goodness will be evident in the life of such man or woman.
- Sincere – A man who has the wisdom of God is genuine, free from pretence and deceit. He is forthright, honest and no hypocritical.
- Impartial – God’s wisdom is fair and just. It is free from favoritism and bias.
- Merciful – The wisdom that comes from God is gracious, forgiving and compassionate.

Thank you for addressing this critical topic and for your beautiful prayer! Our kids desperately need our prayers with all they’re facing.
Yes ma’am. Our kids need our prayers more than ever. Thanks for reading.
I absolutely love this prayer. I can tell you spent time with our Father. Is there any way you could make the printable on just a white background? I’d love to print it to hang in our homeschool, but that beautiful green will use up all my ink ;).
Thank you so much Ma’am. Thanks for the feedback as well. I will do as you suggested.
I have changed it to a white background. You can go ahead and print. Thank you so much for the feedback.
