‘When purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable’ – This quote is one of the popular taglines of motivational speaker, Dr Myles Monroe who passed away a few years ago. These words give every parent enough reason to commit to intentionally say a prayer for your child’s purpose and destiny.
What is Purpose according to the Bible?
It is true that when a man has no clear direction about the why and what of his existence here on earth, life feels clueless, trivial and meaningless. This brings us to the question – Is there a purpose for every child born on earth?
“It is in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.” Ephesians 1:11-12 The Message
God has a purpose for everyone here on earth. Proverbs 16:4 says – “The Lord has made everything for its own purpose, even the wicked for the day of evil.” And this purpose can only be found in God.
The truth is that without a relationship with God the giver of life, the question of purpose cannot be fully answered. It is in Christ we find out who we are and what we are living for.
Purpose starts with God. Your purpose was established before the foundation of the world. Your purpose is a part of God’s bigger plan and agenda. And as parents, we must share these truths with our children.
You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book. Psalm 139:16
