There is a prayer Jesus prayed and one every mother should pray. Jesus Christ, the son of God is the greatest man that ever walked the face of the earth. He changed lives, transformed destinies and gave us a new life and hope. He also left us with a prayer I believe every mother should pray.
Every person he met never remained the same. His ministry on the earth was just 3 years, yet he made such an impact that we still feel its effect today. When Jesus was about to round up his ministry on earth, he prayed for his disciples. He also went on to make prayer deposits for those who will come to know his name in the future.
Why Did Jesus Pray?
Jesus showed us through his life the importance of prayer. He prayed as an example to his followers and also to show us how to reach the heart of the father. Jesus also prayed for others teaching us how to lift others up to God aside our own needs and desires.
Jesus prayed alone Luke 5:16 reads, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
Jesus prayed with others. Luke 9:28 reads, “[Jesus] took Peter, John and James with Him and went up onto a mountain to pray.”
Jesus spent all night praying. Luke 6;12 reads, “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.”
Jesus taught about persistence in prayer using a parable. Luke 18;1 “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”
Jesus prayed for others. Matthew 19;13 reads, , “Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them.”
Jesus modelled to us a life of prayer while on the earth. He prayed for the sick, he prayed for his disciples and prayed to the father to let the father’s will prevail in his life. The father was not someone distant to Jesus, he knew God was with him and he called on him many times in prayer. Jesus practiced prayer when he got up early to pray, went to the mountainside to pray or withdrew many times to pray. He knew that wisdom, power, strength, direction, counsel, miracles and intimacy came through spending time with God in prayer.
A Prayer of Jesus
We find this prayer in the the 17th chapter of the book of John. This powerful verse of scripture shows us the words Jesus prayed, and it is a prayer I believe every mother should pray. And we can see clearly that he knew that the world will still be full of evil, trials and challenges after his exit. Yet he reassures us with this simple prayer to the father to guard us from evil and protect us from the evil one.
“I am not asking that you take them out of the world, but that you guard them from evil.” – John 17:15 The Message Bible
” I’m not asking you to take them out of the world but to protect them from the evil one. ” – 17:15 GW
” I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one.” – John 17:15 AMPC
The son of God knew that the world will be a turbulent and tough place to live in, yet he did not ask God to take his disciples out of the world. Rather he prayed that God will keep them safe from the evil one.
Today, our children live in a world where sex, drugs, nudity and poor values have taken the front seat. Good morals and character are slowly fading away. Ignorance has become bliss and the ears of young children have suddenly become deaf to godly counsel. Will you trust God to guard your child from all forms of evil?
Here are 7 Powerful Scriptures you can pray as a Mother
And of course, we simply cannot wish the existence of our children away from the world we currently live in. However, we can pray the words Jesus prayed for his disciples and those who would later come to accept him. He knew that there will be battles, challenges and temptations for his disciples to overcome in the world, but he still chose to entrust them to God knowing that God had the power to keep and protect their spirit, soul, mind and body from the evil one.
Jesus prayed to God to guard his disciples from evil in the midst of the chaos. He prayed to God to make them holy and consecrated with the truth of his word. Remember that you will not always be with your children, but God can be with them at all times.
Children will often be confronted with the darkness that is in the world in different seasons of their lives, but you can pray to God to give them grace to stand boldly for him and never compromise.
Will you take a moment, an hour or just a few minutes to say this prayer over your children today.
A Short Prayer for God’s Protection Over Your Child
“Dear Father, keep and protect my children from the evil one.”
Keep their minds free from the decay and corruption that has infiltrated the world.
Keep their souls free from the hatred, anger, guilt and bitterness that seeks to keep many in bondage.
Protect them daily from the wicked plans and imaginations of men that seek to destroy and cut short destinies of children.
Protect them from perverts and abusers roaming freely in the world who are on a mission to detach children from their God given purpose and identity.
Help them to always take a stand for the truth and what is right according to God’s standard and not the world’s standard. Amen!
Amen ❤
He prays for us still and I am so glad for the Holy Spirit’s favor and protection. Evil is very real and children need prayers.
Yes ma’am. May we find strength to keep praying over them. Thanks for reading.
