Day Seven: When You Need a Miracle (Mark 10:46-52 – Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus)

How often do we find the courage to call out to God for mercy? Especially when the situation looks hopeless and the diagnosis isn’t looking so good. Sometimes it is you calling out to God for hope, healing, deliverance and freedom. Perhaps a silent cry in your heart pleading for God’s mercy and intervention in your life.

Bartimaeus was a man with a very bleak future. His daily routine included sitting by the roadside and begging for alms to take care of himself. Lest we forget that he was also blind and had no idea of what the world around him looked like. These three words described his life – Darkness, hopelessness and suffering. Moreover, he had fully embraced his condition until he heard that Jesus was passing by. But he did not stop with what he heard, he called out to Jesus to have mercy on him.  What you hear sometimes can create a pathway to your miracle.

When blind Bartimaeus called out to God for mercy, it was obvious that he was tired of his state and wanted a new life and story. So, he reached out for his miracle by faith saying – ‘Son of David, have mercy on me?’  Faith will always be a crucial element in the unveiling of our breakthroughs and miracles. It also takes faith to believe in God whom you have never seen but only heard about. The bible says that when blind Bartimaeus heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth that was passing by, he began to shout  – ‘ Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.’ The people around rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted the more.

What have you heard about Jesus? Do you believe that he can change your life and story forever? In one man’s desperate call to God for a miracle in his life, he asked for just one thing – mercy.  God is rich in mercy .“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us” – Ephesians 2:4 And his mercy never comes to an end. Scriptures declare that they are new every morning and his mercy always triumphs over judgement.

Is your heart crying out to God for a miracle of healing, deliverance, financial breakthrough and transformation in your life? The Bible says that Jesus stopped and called Bartimaeus to him. He then asks him this very specific question – what do you want me to do for you?

Bartimaeus wanted to see again. That was his deepest desire. Imagine being confined to a world of darkness. Imagine a future blurred by your weaknesses, inadequacies and Satan’s lies. Imagine a life locked in poverty, pain, lack and sickness. But then, he needed a miracle and when he came in contact with Jesus, his life was changed forever. Jesus always never leaves you the same way he met you.

Jesus is asking you today – what do you want me to do for you? Yes, you called out to me for mercy, but what is it you want me to do specifically in your life? Heaven will respond to your faith.

When you need a miracle, remember that God is closer than you think. He will respond to your call for mercy and  hears your silent cries in prayer. And in those moments when it feels like God is silent – remember that even when you don’t see it, God is working it all out for your good.

“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.  – Mark 10:52

God can transform your life in an instant. He can move you from nothing to abundance in a moment. He can move you from unknown to known, pain to purpose and from sickness to health . God can mend your broken parts and make you whole again.

When Jesus called Bartimaeus, he threw away his cloak – that thing that had defined his state and identity for so long. He jumped up from the place that had become his limitation and moved even though he was blind. He ran before Jesus who he had only heard about not afraid but in faith and full of hope. Every action he took was one more step towards his miracle of healing and deliverance. What little steps of faith do you need to take today towards your miracle ,freedom, healing and deliverance?

When you need a miracle:

  • Call out to God – His ears are open to your prayers.
  • Trust in God’s faithfulness – Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever.
  • Embrace the process – God is always working behind the scenes in our lives to give us the best ending.
  • Walk by faith – One step of faith can make the difference and open the door to your miracle

You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. – Psalms 77:14 NIV

Prayer: Heavenly father, I ask that you fill my heart with faith to believe for miracles in my life and family. I believe in Jesus. I believe in miracles. I believe in the power in the name of Jesus. May my relationship with Christ be an open door to the miraculous in my life every single day. Amen!
