Do you know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made and created in the image of God? The Psalmist speaks about how God shaped your delicate inside and intricate outside. Indeed, the human body is a detailed masterpiece created by God himself. This is why as a parent, you should always say a prayer for your child’s body and health.
“You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place; carefully, skillfully you shaped me from nothing to something.” Psalm 139:13-15 TPT
What Does God Have to Say About my Body?
Your body belongs to God and he expects you to take good care of your body. The bible clearly states that the body is meant for the Lord and not to be used as a tool for self-satisfaction and all kinds of evil vices.
“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body”. – I Corinthians 6:13
It is true that in the world today, many have turned their bodies to tools of immorality and destruction. While others are obsessed with physical beauty and sexy bodies, forgetting that their bodies belong to God who wants us to honor him with our bodies.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
As a child of God, your body has become the temple of the most High God. And your children must not be left out of this narrative, they must come to understand at an early age that their bodies belong to God and he dwells inside them. Knowing this will help them make good choices as regards their bodies. They will grow up embracing a healthy lifestyle that will benefit their bodies.
What Does God Say About Living a Healthy Lifestyle?
God gave you this body and he does not want you to abuse, neglect and destroy it. There are some people today who are suffering the consequences of decades of abuse of their bodies. They made poor choices that have affected their bodies and overall health till this day.
It is true that sometimes, you may not always have full control of what may go wrong with your body and health. However, you can choose to make good choices and embrace a lifestyle that will help your body thrive and function properly here on earth. Children must be also taught to care for their bodies by eating healthy and staying active.
Today, sedentary behaviors like computer use, playing video games and constant television viewing have replaced physical activity in children. Also, parents are feeding their children fast food/drinks and junk meals instead of healthy meals that provide the needed nutrition for growth and proper development.
All of these have led to an increase in childhood obesity which puts these children at risk of health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes in the future. Also, a lot of young children are turning to vices like drug use, alcoholism and sex that have the capacity to destroy their bodies. As parents, it is our responsibility to model a healthy lifestyle to our kids. They must see how we are glorifying God with our own bodies.
“For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:20
“ For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.” – Ephesians 5:29
“ So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” – James 4:17
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31

Father, thank you for blessing my children with healthy and whole bodies. Thank you shaping them carefully and skillfully. Indeed, my children are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. Lord, help my children to love and appreciate their bodies. May they not be caught up in the trap of deceit and wrong ideologies about their bodies. Help them to understand and accept their uniqueness and true identity in Christ Jesus.
I pray that you Lord will always protect my children’s bodies from all harm and attack of the evil one. Shield their bodies from diseases, sickness and accidents. Let your hedge of protection be roundabout their bodies and may your angels always be on guard to protect their bodies from potential danger, threats and attacks from the enemy.
Lord, I ask that you fill my children’s bodies with your strength. Help them to fight weariness, anxiety and overwhelm that can cause harm to their bodies and health. Guard their choices and help them to embrace a healthy lifestyle. Lead them away from people, places and situations that will lead them on a path of destroying their bodies. May my children not be found choosing habits and embracing vices that can cause great harm to their bodies and health.
Lord, help my children to know that their bodies belong to God and is the temple of God. Teach them to possess their earthly vessels with honor. I declare that my children prosper both in their bodies and mind. Thank you Lord for taking sickness and diseases away from their midst. Thank you for healing them and restoring their health. Where there is a life threatening illness, I pray that the son of righteousness will arise with healing in his wings over that child. I declare that my children’s bodies will not be broken by sickness. I declare that the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will come and give life to their mortal bodies. Heal my child Lord and he/she will be healed. I declare that it will always be well with my child’s spirit, soul and body. Amen!
