power of words

How God Uses Our Words to Encourage and Strengthen Others

Some of the most important moments in our lives will not happen during big conversations, unusual encounters or dramatic turning points. They will sometimes happen quietly and in unexpected ways. Like when someone speaks the right words to you at the right time, and those words spoken become the key to finding ourselves, lighting up hope in our hearts and rewriting our stories. This is how God uses our words to encourage and strengthen others

It could be just one sentence spoken in love that leads you into a complete mind renewal process that moves you into God’s plan for your life. It can be a truth whispered just when you are so close to giving up. It may just be a simple reminder that God still loves you and still believes in you.

Why Our Words Matter More Than We Realize

Words are powerful. I personally believe that words are seeds that can bear good or bad fruit. Sometimes they build up, sometimes they tear down and sometimes they can destroy. But when we intentionally choose to speak or even share our thoughts with God’s heart in mind, our words become more than just ordinary sounds or letters. These words spoken or written become conveyors of  God’s encouragement, strength, power, deliverance, hope and even healing.

As moms, writers, and women striving to live faithfully, we often underestimate the far-reaching impact of our words. We think they are common or do not even matter. But Scripture reminds us that God can work through our words in ways we may never see.  Jesus himself said that the words he spoke carried God’s spirit and life. His words brought hope, healing and changed hopeless situations. You are a child of God and have the Spirit of God living inside you now. Your words are not ordinary. They can bring light into dark situations, break strongholds and lift someone up from the dust of grief and despair.

John 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

That simple text message, whispered prayer, one sentence voice note or short encouragement can become a lifeline to someone who feels unseen, weary, or overwhelmed. God can meet people through our words when they need hope the most. Let me share a little story.

Towards the end of last year, on the 26th of December specifically, I saw a message in my Facebook messenger. “Merry Christmas. And then she said please I want to send you a token for Christmas. I went through our previous messages from 2020 trying to understand why she wanted to send me a gift. And she kept saying please do not say No. Here is what she wrote next:

I remember coming to your Dm during my rough moments, without even knowing you and I needed someone to speak to then. My first time ever doing that and you listened to me, gave me your words of wisdom then, you also sent me some trainings on how to make soaps and just do things. I didn’t do the training but your words of encouragement helped me then, thank you so much. I am grateful for being so kind to a total stranger. God bless you and may you find help when you truly need it.

For the most part of last year, I hardly wrote any new article and was more of in a place of being uninspired. I even wondered many times if this blog was doing its work. But trust me, it’s the devil’s way of tricking you to believe that your ministry even though small is irrelevant. I acknowledged that I remembered her and our conversations from years back. I then said to her:

And to think that I was quietly wondering and asking myself if I was reaching and impacting others through my words of encouragement and writing recently. And I see your message and I am so encouraged. It sure is an answer to a quiet prayer. What she said to me next was everything. “It is not always loud trust me, but you are touching lives.” She did send me a gift. It was one good ending to the year 2025. God was simply telling me – these words will reach those who need it. Do your part and leave the rest to me.

One timely word, one article written on your blog or social media, one Holy Spirit inspired sentence sent as a text message or voice note, one scripture texted or spoken can be that thread of hope that someone needs to hang onto. God wants to use your words to encourage and strengthen someone today. Through your gentle encouragement, timely truths, God inspired writings and faith-filled words shared and spoken, God will meet people in their weakest moments and remind them of His love and presence.

“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” — Proverbs 16:24

3 Ways God Uses Our Words to Encourage and Strengthen Others

1. Our Words Reflect God’s Heart

When you speak a word of encouragement to someone struggling or going through a hard season, you are reflecting God’s love, presence and heart through those words. God is a father who speaks life into our hearts and minds. He wants you to know that you are seen, heard, and loved.

Think about how Jesus interacted with people. He noticed the overlooked, healed the broken-hearted, set the captives free and spoke words that carried life and power. He spoke life to the bent over woman in the bible. The words “Woman thou art loosed” shattered a lifetime of bondage in one woman’s life.

And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, woman thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid hands on her; and immediately she was made straight and glorified God. – Luke 13:12 -13

Your words can do the same today – heal, soothe, comfort, encourage and liberate. Whether by complimenting a friend’s effort, speaking a word of encouragement, reminding a child of her identity and worth, or writing a blog post to inspire others, your words are reflecting the heart and love of God in very tangible ways.

2. Our Words Can Have a Ripple Effect

Even simple words of encouragement we speak can travel far beyond what we may see or ever know. A kind note, a timely Scripture, a spirit led prayer or a simple “I am here to walk with you through this” can encourage someone to keep going when life feels heavy. I have had times when a word spoken has propelled me to keep being and doing. One simple word spoken to me many years ago – you are more than this – set me on a journey of embracing my identity in God.

Remember the woman at the well? After her encounter with Jesus and the life-giving words he spoke, she ran into the city to tell her story. And through her, many in the city came to seek Christ.

This woman then left her water-pot and went her way into the city and saith to the men, come, see a man, which told me all the things that I ever did. Is this not the Christ? – John 4:24

Your words are powerful seeds that can change lives and lift others up from the ashes of pain and despondency. As you speak or write those words, know that you are planting seeds of hope, faith and encouragement. These word  seeds may seem to grow slowly, but one day, you or the person you encouraged will see the fruit of that small, God-given influence. Sometimes, it may even be that the impact of your words will go beyond this moment, creating a ripple effect that touches generations after.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9

3. Our Words Can Strengthen our Faith

The words you speak will not only bless others, they also shape our own hearts and strengthen our faith. Speaking life, hope, and encouragement aligns us with God’s Spirit and encourages us in our Christian faith as well. As you pour into others and encourage the weak and hopeless, God will fill your empty places.

Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Become that woman who is generous with words of hope and encouragement. As you build the faith and hope of others with your words, you will be strengthened in your own faith walk. Your word seeds will produce a harvest of righteousness in your own life.

Conclusion

You do not need a huge platform or a perfect moment to make a difference in the lives of others. God can use your words – the texts, prayers, journal notes, articles and spontaneous conversations to encourage, strengthen, and bless others. And even when it seems like no one notices, God sees, and He will multiply what is written and spoken in love and obedience to his leading.

God has put a word in your mouth and heart for someone out there. Do you believe this? Let him fill your heart with God inspired ideas today and strengthen your hands to write a timely word for that one person who needs it. To you, it may just be a word, but to someone else, it may be the lifeline needed to keep walking, hoping and believing. Or even an answer to a nagging question and a doorway to a God encounter. May your words continue to be a source of strength and hope to those whom God will bring into your path.

A Short Prayer

Lord, help me to use my words to encourage and strengthen others. I refuse to tear down and destroy others with and through my words. Teach me to speak life, hope and faith even in the ordinary moments. Give me the courage to always speak a timely word in due season to who needs it. Align my path to meet those who you want to speak to through the words you have given me. Breathe on my words and let your Holy Spirit carry them to where it is needed. May every word I share always reflect Your love, hope, and grace. In Jesus Mighty Name I pray. Amen.
