Advent Devotional Week Three: A Savior is Born

The birth of Jesus Christ wasn’t just the birth of a baby- it was the fulfilment of prophecy from thousands of years ago. His birth was also the beginning of God’s rescue and salvation plan for humanity. This year’s Advent is an invitation to pause and reflect on the Savior’s birth and what it means to you today.

Week One: Chosen by God
Week Two: Waiting on the Lord’s Promises

Advent Devotional Week Three: A Savior is Born

Scripture: Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. – Luke 2:11 NIV

Devotional Reflection:

The birth and arrival of a new born into a family always comes with great rejoicing. Whether it’s a baby girl or boy, the addition of a new baby often times signifies new beginnings, blessings and a new journey of nurturing, shaping minds and building legacies.

My parents jumped up in joy and gratitude about 14 years ago when they learnt that I had safely delivered my son, who happened to be their first grandchild. Jesus was Mary’s firstborn child, but he was no ordinary child. He was the son of God, the Messiah and the Savior who would go on to die to save humanity from the bondage of sin.

The angel’s proclamation to the shepherds points us to the very heart of the Christmas message. “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”Luke 2:11 God’s promise was fulfilled. A Savior was born and he is the Lord Yahweh, the Messiah.

The arrival of Jesus as a Savior does not only give us hope, but also reminds us of God’s undying love for his people and his ultimate rescue plan to save mankind from the clutches of sin and the kingdom of darkness. Today, as we embrace the gift of salvation by accepting Jesus into our hearts, let us also remember to walk and live in this newness of life that the Savior gives.

And with Christmas day fast approaching, all the excitement in the air, gift exchange and sharing, please take a moment to discover and unwrap the most precious gift of all given to us by God – Jesus Christ the son of God. The Bible calls him Wonderful Counsellor, Everlasting Father, Mighty God, Prince of Peace.

As we celebrate his birth, may we be reminded of this profound truth “A Savior is born.”  This truth changes everything, because Jesus was not just born to live, but to reign as king eternally. He came to rescue us, restore us, and bring us into a relationship with God. May the wonder of His birth fill your heart with hope, peace, joy, and love this Christmas.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace – Isaiah 9:6

Application:

1. Reflect: What does the phrase “A Savior is born” mean to you personally?

2. Action: Are there areas in your life where you need to invite Jesus to be your Savior and King?

3. Encourage: How can you share the good news of Jesus’ birth with others during this Advent Season?
