“Thanksgiving is a gateway into God’s Presence”
If you have ever been in a difficult situation in your life, you will agree with me that it is not the easiest of times to give thanks to God.
How does a young woman who has just lost a husband give thanks?
How does a mother whose child has been diagnosed with a terminal illness give thanks?
How does a woman whose family has just been thrown out of their apartment even give thanks?
I remember a powerful scene from the movie, Queen of Katwe, where Fiona’s mother is thrown out of their little apartment, which happened to be in a slum.
She was a young widow with children and now they had nowhere to lay their heads. She was broken and tested beyond her limits, yet she held her children close and walked into the darkness of the night, until they found a spot on the street to spend the night.
This mother no longer had a roof over her head, but she had her children and they gave her many reasons to stay thankful and hopeful about tomorrow.
Why should you give thanks as a mother?
Why should you still utter these words ‘Thank you Lord’ in your lowest and darkest moments.
Why should thanksgiving be a daily part of your life as a mother?
This is why you should give thanks and make thanksgiving a daily part of your life as a mother.
It is because ‘Thanksgiving’ is a gateway into God’s presence.
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. ” Psalms 100:4 NLT
It is because ‘Thanksgiving’ is the password that you need to open the door to walk into God’s presence.
“Enter with the password: “Thank you!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him.” Psalm 100:4 MSG
And where else would you rather be daily as a mother than in God’s presence.
In God’s presence you are content.
In God’s presence you have fullness of joy.
In God’s presence, you find life and different expressions of God’s love.
In God’s presence, you get wisdom, revelation and light for everyday living.
In God’s presence, you are flooded with peace like a river in your soul.
In God’s presence, you find hope and faith for a better and brighter tomorrow.
So if you have ever wondered why you should always give thanks to God as a mother, irrespective of what you maybe going through.
Think about God’s presence and how having God with you and by your side can make all the difference in your motherhood walk.
Will you give God thanks today and experience the joy of his presence ?
