7 Great Reasons Why God Made You a Mother

Do you know that motherhood will sometimes bring you the good, the bad and the ugly? But in spite of our feelings and outbursts, there are still good reasons why God made you a mother.

Have you ever seen a woman who waited 8 years to conceive her first child. Her burden is lifted when she gets pregnant, fingers crossed, she is anxious till the day her baby arrives and then you see the good of motherhood.

Then, you must have also seen a woman whose marriage turned sour, her aggression and anger is turned towards her children. It’s a sorry sight as her children suffer the consequences of a failed marriage and the effects of love gone sour. Here, you will see the bad of motherhood.

Lastly, there is that woman who sees her children as a burden and limitation to her progress. She cares less about their education, health and future. She just wants to fan her desires and live her life having fun and seeking worldly pleasures. Her children are left to raise themselves and suffer physical, emotional and mental neglect. Here, you see the ugly side of motherhood.

Now, read this; It may be that your pregnancy was not planned and you might have even called it a mistake but I want you to know that God chose you and made you a mother for a reason.

You may be overwhelmed by the many challenges of motherhood right now, but know this, you are perfect for your children. God chose you to raise them, to train them and nurture them. He knows that you alone are fit for that role in their lives.

Bible Verses About Mothers

A mother is the one who gives life to other. She goes through the process of carrying a life inside her until she births her child. However, the word ‘mother’ cannot be limited to only that woman who births a child, it also speaks of that woman who has taken the role of nurturer, comforter, teacher and guide. And all of these are expressions of who God is to us as his children. Here are some bible verses about mothers.

“The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” Genesis 3:20

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:13-14

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'” Proverbs 31:28–29

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” Isaiah 49:15

“Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that hovers over its young, He spread His wings and caught them, He carried them on His pinions. The Lord alone guided him, and there was no foreign god with him.” Deuteronomy 32:11-12

“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:31

“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Deuteronomy 6:6–7

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:26

7 Reasons Why God Made You a Mother

1. God believes in you.

Remember Mary, the young virgin who met an angel that told her she would carry and birth the son of the most high God. Was she scared? Yes! But she chose to embrace the role of mother because God believed in her enough to chose her to accomplish his purpose.

2. God knows that you have something to give.

Sarah in the bible was barren and had no hope of ever conceiving a child. Yet, God spoke a word to her that she will give birth to a son and he will be called Isaac. Sarah was old and may have felt she had nothing to give in that season of her life. God showed up and fulfilled his promise and she said – God has made me to laugh. Who would have thought that Sarah would bear Abraham a son in old age. But she did, because God knew that she still had something to give – a story of hope and a legacy of faith in God.

3. God sees how much impact you can make.

Deborah was a judge and prophetess in Israel. She held court and judged between the people of the land just as Moses had done. The bible calls her a mother in Israel. She took up the role of leadership and led God’s people with wisdom and faith. Her impact was felt because under her leadership, God’s children returned to him and Israel enjoyed 40 years of peace. God sees how much impact you can make as a mother and wants you to embrace your role.

4. God knows how much influence you carry.

Jochabed was a mother who knew how much influence she carried. And we see this come alive when she defies the King’s order that all children born must be killed. This mother summons courage and hides her child away from the wicked plots of the enemy.

The bible says that she saw that her child was a special child and she was willing to protect his future and destiny. Jochabed is celebrated as Moses’ mother – but she was that mother who raised three children that were used by God – a Deliverer (Moses), a Priest(Aaron) and a Prophetess (Miriam). And her influence is still ongoing as she continues to encourage mothers through her life and actions.

3 Quick Ways to Get Inspiration as a Mom

5. God wants you to nurture and raise godly seeds.

Hannah prayed earnestly for a child and made a promise to give him back  to God. This mother fulfils her promise as her son Samuel was given to God to serve in his house at a very young age. The bible says that Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord. Hannah wanted her child to walk in the ways of God and led him to God’s house. God wants you to raise sons and daughters who will bring glory and honor to his name.

6. God wants you to share your faith and give good counsel.

Naomi was the mother-in-law of Ruth. She had lost everything, but little did she know that her daughter-in-law was learning from her faith during her season of bitterness. Ruth clung to Naomi and said – your God will be my God and your people will be my people. Naomi gave Ruth the counsel that she needed when Boaz showed up in her life. You faith in God can be seen and God wants you to share your faith with others.

7. God wants you to empower the next generation and leave a lasting legacy.

Timothy was a mentee of Paul, the Apostle. There must have been something about the life of Timothy that made Paul call out his mother and grandmother. He said: “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.” I Timothy 5:7 ESV

These women were able to pass on their faith from one generation to another. Their words and actions shaped the minds and hearts of their children, so much that their names are imprinted in sands of time. God wants you to plant seeds of greatness and empower the next generation. He wants you leave a lasting legacy for your children.

Every mother is a light that can keep shining for generations to come. God wants you to use your words, wisdom and your actions as a mother to teach, guide and influence the world positively. Will you embrace this gift of motherhood today?
