The words written in the book of Psalms have been  and will continue to be a great source of hope and comfort to many around the world. Its poetic phrases, prayers and deep reflective verses make it a favorite book in the bible for many believers.

Katie Walker said this : ” Few books have played an integral part in shaping my faith as the Book of Psalms. I was blessed to grow up immersed in the psalms, and they gave me an invaluable aid in my walk with God.” Read her full article  here.

Psalm 23 is an all-time favorite and is usually a go-to Psalm when teaching children to memorize scriptures. I personally love Psalm 139 because of how it captures details about God’s presence and his attentiveness to us. My favorite verse from Psalm 139 reads –

” I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:13

This verse reminds me of my uniqueness and how much detail God put into his creation.

Psalms for Hope and Comfort

In 2020, the world was brought to its feet by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thousands died of complications from the coronavirus, while fear and panic sunk deep roots in the lives and hearts of many around the world.

And just because we are humans, our emotions will often take over and begin to affect our thoughts causing us to loose track of our divine nature.

But in those times and moments, when fear grips your soul, leaving you worried about your family and loved ones, there is still one thing that you can do.

Did you know that the word, ‘Fear not’ appears 365 times in the bible?

There must have been a reason those words were re-echoed many times in the bible. I believe God wanted us to know who and where to look at in times of difficulty, pain, distress and anxiety.

So in those times when you feel anxious and it seems like all hope is lost, will you look to God and his word to find peace and rest for your anxious soul? Or would you remain crippled by fear in the midst of the chaos and disaster swooping across the world? It is one book in the bible that can offer you a lot of hope and comfort in difficult seasons of life.

The book of Psalms in the bible happens to be one of the most widely read and highly treasured books of the bible. It is a collection of poetic expressions, songs, deep reflections and prayers to God.

Most times, this book gives a voice to what is really going on in our hearts and lives, irrespective of our individual status or whatever challenges we maybe going through. And reading through its rich content will usually draw you closer to God and help you feel his power and presence in your life.

Are you worried about your family and loved ones presently?

Do you feel overwhelmed by all the negative news flying around across the globe?

Here are 7 Uplifting Psalms that you can pray over your family.

1. Psalms 91

This psalms is a favorite among many around the world. It clearly shows us the love and protection God has for his people.

The very first verse of this Psalms captures an image of safety and protection in God. And the many verses that follow also give you an assurance of peace and security, because you know someone greater is watching over you.

This is a great time for you to pray the words of this Psalms over your family, as you daily declare God’s protection over your loved ones.

” I will say of the Lord , He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.”
Psalms 91:2‭-‬3 KJV

” Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.”
Psalms 91:5‭-‬7 NLT

2. Psalms 121

This Psalms happens to be one of my personal favorites. I taught my son to memorize the first two verses of this Psalms when he was about 4-years old.

It is a collection of verses of scripture that puts life in perspective and helps you turn your focus to God.

The first verse of Psalms 121 begins with a soul-searching thought, like a man in dire need of quick answers, but then, he goes on to ask a question almost immediately. The question, ‘Does my help come from all of these things I have turned my focus on?’

In times like this on the earth, where and who you are looking to for help?

Psalms 121 talks about a God who never sleeps on duty when it comes to watching over you and your loved ones. This may just be a good time to meditate on the words in this Psalm and declare them aloud over your family.

Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.

The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.” Psalms 121:4‭-‬5 NLT

3. Psalms 27

This powerful Psalms written by King David is a declaration of faith and absolute trust in the greatness of God.

The first two verses set the tone for the entire Psalms, with King David asking these questions,

Why should I be afraid if God is the one who gives my life direction and saves me?

Why should I tremble if God is my fortress and will protect me from danger?

If you have ever felt yourself drowning in fear, especially at a time like this, you can pray the verses in this Psalms and let confidence and hope rise up in your heart.

“Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.”
Psalms 27:3 NLT

Then let the words written in Psalms 46 bring comfort to your soul.

The writer talks about the nations being in chaos, kingdoms crumbling and the earth melting away, (a case today being the Covid-19 pandemic swooping across the world).

But then he tells us also about a God who is among them and has become their fortress.

You can take out some time today to meditate on these words and speak them over yourself and your family. Also remember to personalize each sentence.

“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.” Psalms 46:1‭-‬2 NLT

So, if you are feeling down right now or need some words of hope for your family then take a walk through Psalm 23 and declare hope and victory.

I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” Psalms 23:4 NLT

King David wrote this Psalms as a song which he sung to God on the day God rescued him from his enemies and King Saul.

What then is a rock? And what is a fortress?

You can take some of the words from this Psalms today and begin to pray them over your family.
